Atlanta Braves News: Ozzie Albies extended his hit streak to 12 games last night with a clutch double to score Ronald Acuna Jr. in the 7th innings of a 0-0 game. The double gave the Braves a 1-0 lead in a pitcher’s duel. Max Fried and Bryce Miller were going toe-to-toe and blow-for-blow.
Albies’ double came after Ronald Acuna Jr. had just broken up Bryce Miller’s no-hit bid in the prior at-bat. Acuna stole second and third to set up Albies’ go-ahead double.
It was Ozzie’s ninth double of the season. The 99.6 mph blast bounced off the right-center wall. Miller grooved a 94 mph fastball right down the middle and Ozzie made him pay.
The 12-game hit streak is now the longest active streak on the Braves. Albies’ hit streak began on April 7th and is wrapped around a 10-day IL stint after he suffered a fractured toe after being hit by a pitch. He has picked up where he left off, hitting in four straight since returning from the IL on April 26th.
Albies is inching closer to Marcell Ozuna‘s 17-game hit streak which set the mark for the longest Braves hit streak of the year. Ozuna’s came to an end about a week ago. Austin Riley also put together an 11-game hit streak between April 6th and April 17th.
During the streak, Albies his slashing .360/.418/.520 with 18 hits in 50 at-bats. He has eight doubles, two walks, 10 RBI, 11 strikeouts, one steal, and has been hit by three pitches.
Albies is putting together another fantastic season for the Braves, slashing .325/.386/.513.
