Braves win 7th series with 3rd walk-off of year, 4-1 in extra innings

Atlanta Braves News: Austin Riley‘s walk-off hit in the 10th inning of Sunday’s 4-3 victory over Cleveland was the 3rd walk-off of the year for the Braves. Atlanta has won seven of their nine series so far in 2023. They lost to the New York Mets and they split the first two games against the White Sox before the third was postponed.

Despite losing two games to Atlanta, Cleveland is still in first place in the AL Central. The Braves have moved to 19-7, 1.5 games ahead of the Phillies. Atlanta has the best record in Major League Baseball.

Austin Riley breaks out with walk-off hit

Austin Riley entered the day on an 0-12 streak. While he wasn’t getting the results we wanted, he had been hitting the ball hard. Riley is in the 82nd percentile in average exit velocity, 88th percentile in barrel percentage, and 85th percentile in hard-hit percentage.

Sunday’s game was the fifth extra-innings affair of the season for the Braves and their second in as many days against the Guardians. The Guardians defeated the Braves in Saturday’s 11-inning tilt.

Bryce Elder was solid in his second-straight start and his second total start for the Braves this season. Elder notched 5.1 innings while allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out two.

Elder has a 1.50 ERA through two starts and 12 innings. However, his 48.6% hard-hit rate is among the worst in the league. For a guy who doesn’t strike many people out, we want to see that number come way down. Nonetheless, it’s two straight starts with two good outcomes for the righty.

The Braves are destroying opposing bullpens

If it feels like the Braves have destroyed bullpens this season, then you are correct. In fact, every time the oppositions scores early or the Braves are losing mid-game, the degenerate gambling group chat I’m in lights up with alerts to put money on the Braves. It’s the best way to get good odds on them since they are favorites in every stinking game!

The Braves lead the league in runs scored in the seventh inning and later. The Braves have scored 43% of their total runs in the seventh inning or later.

The Braves will travel to Seattle to face the 15-13 Mariners at 9:40 pm ET tonight.
