Atlanta Braves News: Bryce Elder is getting called up to start against the Marlins tomorrow. Darius Vines was sent optioned after his start tonight.
Bryce Elder has been performing well in Gwinnett after making the National League All-Star team in 2023. Elder is coming off of his second win of the season for Gwinnett last Tuesday night.
Embed from Getty ImagesIn his last start against the Memphis Redbirds, Elder went 6.0 innings while allowing six hits, two walks, and three earned runs. He struck out seven batters in the start.
Elder holds a 3.31 ERA on the season with 18 strikeouts over 16.1 innings with a 1.16 WHIP.
Elder’s start is likely a spot start to give the regular starters an extra day of rest. If Elder performs well, he could hold the spot with Darius Vines getting optioned to Gwinnett.
Elder went 12-4 last season with a 3.81 ERA over 174.2 innings. The Marlins are scuffling into tomorrow night’s game with a 6-17 record. The Marlins are third-worst in the league in runs per game.
Facing the fish presents a great opportunity for Elder to earn another start or two. It appeared the Braves were attempting to get the timing right to bring Elder up after Strider got hurt. His schedule wouldn’t have lined up at the time. After a spectacular first half of 2023 and a really rough second half, we all have our fingers crossed for a great performance tomorrow night for Bryce Elder.
