Bryce Elder was a major-league All-Star for the Atlanta Braves last season. Now that Spencer Strider is out for the year, many expect to see the former All-Star get another shot at the rotation. Darius Vines got the start Monday night and pitched well. But Braves fans are keeping an eye on Bryce down in Gwinnett.
Elder pitched 6.0 innings and allowed six hits, two walks, and three earned runs while striking out seven batters to earn his second win. The Striper won the game 6-5 and moved to an 8-8 record on the season.
Elder gave up three earned runs on a pair of singles and a pair of doubles just in the first inning. The Stripers were able to bounce back with four of their own in the bottom of the first and Elder cruised from there.
Elder is now 2-0 in three starts on the season with a 3.31 ERA. He boasts 18 strikeouts in 16.1 innings with a 1.16 WHIP.
Other News from Gwinnett:
Ray Kerr earned his second save of the season despite allowing two earned runs over 1.2 innings. Kerr has a 3.38 ERA on the season.
Leury Garcia went 2-4 with a stolen base. Garcia is hitting .389 on the season.
Luke Williams blasted his third homer of the season in the seventh inning and scored two runs.
Today’s Matchup: AJ Smith-Shawver will take the mound for the Stripers against the Memphis Redbirds at 12:05 PM EDT at Coolray Field.
