We make the case for Allan Winans to get a shot at some kind of an extended run in the Major Leagues based on his domination at every level of the minor leagues. At 29 years old, Winans deserves an extended look on a Major-League roster.

Atlanta Braves Have Uncertainty in Rotation
As of right now, the Atlanta Braves are looking at opening the season with two spots up for grabs in the starting rotation. Of course, I think we are all expecting Alex Anthopoulos to bring in a big name to fill one of those slots. However, if the price isn’t right, AA won’t bite. The Braves currently looking at a rotation of Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez, and Spencher Schwellenbach.
Spencer Strider likely will not be ready for about a month and we don’t know how long it will take him to get into form. While we love those three names at the top, they do represent a risky proposition for the rotation in 2025.
The way it stands, names like Grant Holmes, AJ Smith-Shawver, Bryce Elder, Dylan Dodd, and Ian Anderson have been tossed around as potential candidates to fill the rolls.
Allan Winans is a Candidate for the 2025 Braves Rotation
One name also included on that list is Allan Winans. He has had some run with the big-league club over the past two seasons. He has a 7.20 ERA over 40.0 MLB innings. However, Winans had a spectacular season in Gwinnett last year.
Winans led the Stripers in innings pitched with 114.2 and led the staff with a 3.30 ERA, going 7-5 in 16 starts (24 appearances). Here’s a look at his final numbers for Gwinnett last year. That’s right, Winans was better than Top-100 prospect AJ Smith-Shawver and former MLB All-Star Bryce Elder.

Winans probably deserves a shot at a steady job in the big leagues.
We aren’t saying he deserves to be handed the job over the likes of Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder, or anyone who earns it this spring. We are saying that he’s done all he can at each stop in the minor leagues and deserves some kind of a run as a starter or a reliever to see what he can do with some semblance of job security.
40.0 big-league innings is a very small sample size.
Allan Winans will be a name to watch this spring at CoolToday Park as the competition commences for the final spots in the Braves rotation.
