Atlanta Braves Top Free Agents: Greg Maddux, 1993
The most obvious inclusion to this list, Maddux signed five-year, $28 million contract with Atlanta in 1993. While he was a great pitcher at the start of his career with the Cubs, He would become an all-time legend of the game during his time with the Braves. His statistics and accolades with the Braves were unmatched during this era.
He would win the Cy Young award during each of his first 3 seasons with Atlanta and helped the team finally get over the hump and win a World Series championship in 1995. Maddux re-signed with Atlanta after his initial free agency contract and continued to pitch at an elite level well into his 30’s.
Despite not being a homegrown talent Maddux will always be remembered by most fans for his time in Atlanta. A hall of fame induction in 2014 capped off one of the finest careers a pitcher can aspire to.
