Atlanta Braves Top Free Agents: Charlie Morton, 2021

A more recent entry, Morton actually started his career with the Braves in 2008 but it wasn’t until much later in his career that he made an impact for the team. In late 2020 the 37-year-old veteran signed with the team that drafted him on a one-year deal worth $15 million.

Uncle Charlie proved he still had some gas left in the tank in 21′ season posting a 14-6 record with a 3.34 ERA starting an impressive 33 games and putting in over 180 innings worth of work. Morton was an important piece of the puzzle that eventually led to the Braves winning the World Series in 2021.

Over the following two seasons, Charlie signed one-year extensions to remain with the team. He has been as reliable of a starting pitcher as you’ll find in the league for the money that the Braves are paying him. Bonus points, having played for five teams in his career he’s always a good name to use for the Immaculate Grid.
