The Atlanta Braves have dealt DFA’d right-hander Michael Petersen to the Miami Marlins for cash considerations, officially parting ways with the 31-year-old reliever after a brief stint with the club.

Petersen, who was designated for assignment last week, appeared in four games for the Braves. He allowed three earned runs in 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts and two walks.

Petersen posted solid numbers in Triple-A Gwinnett with a 3.13 ERA over 23 innings. The 31-year-old posted a lovely 25.7% strikeout rate while walking just seven percent of batters faced in Triple-A this year. Last season, he posted a 1.64 ERA over 33 Triple-A innings.

Petersen was designated for assignment by the Braves on July 13 to make room on the 40-man roster for Wander Suero after they optioned Daysbel Hernandez to Gwinnett just before the All-Star break.

The Braves will receive some cash (I assume it’s actual cash in a white envelope and not a check or electronic in any way), and the Marlins have optioned Petersen to Triple-A Jacksonville.

We have not heard if Petersen will hand-deliver the cash to the Marlins or if the Braves will use a carrier service of some sort.

The Braves acquired Petersen from the Angels at the beginning of the season in exchange for cash.

One can only wonder if they made money on him or not. Like, did we sell him for more than we paid for him? What’s the ROI on Michael Petersen?

We wish him all the best with the Marlins and thank him for his contributions to the Stripers and the Braves.
