This was Chipper’s toughest Derby showing. Despite a career-high 34 home runs that season, he hit just one in Colorado’s thin air.
12. Ozzie Virgil Jr. – 1987
Home Runs: 2
Virgil’s lone Derby appearance produced two homers in his career-best 27-homer season.

10. Chipper Jones – 2000
Home Runs: 2
This was the last time the All-Star Game was in Atlanta. Chipper couldn’t get in rhythm at Turner Field, hitting two homers. Matt Olson will be the first Brave since then to compete at home.
9. Chipper Jones – 1997
Home Runs: 3
In his first Derby, Chipper knocked out three long balls.
8. Gary Sheffield – 2003
Home Runs: 4
Sheffield’s violent swing produced four homers in his only Braves Derby appearance.
7. Dale Murphy – 1985
Home Runs: 4
In the very first Derby ever, Murphy hit four homers to help launch the tradition.
6. Fred McGriff – 1994
Home Runs: 5
The “Crime Dog” finished second overall in the contest with five blasts.
5. Javy López – 1998
Home Runs: 5
López outslugged Chipper that year, matching McGriff’s total with five homers.
4. Andruw Jones – 2005
Home Runs: 5
After hitting 51 homers that season, Andruw added five in Detroit’s Derby.
3. Freddie Freeman – 2018
Home Runs: 12
Freeman advanced to the modern timed Derby and hit a dozen homers before falling to Bryce Harper. In this one, Bryce Harper was the hometown hero in Washington D.C., and Freddie Freeman was matched up against him. The division rival was heavily booed when he was announced. Harper would go on to win in front of his home crowd. Hopefully, Olson can pull off the same feat on Monday!
2. Ronald Acuña Jr. – 2022
Home Runs: 19
Acuña launched 19 bombs at Dodger Stadium but was edged out by Pete Alonso.
1. Ronald Acuña Jr. – 2019
Home Runs: 44 total (25 in Round 1, 19 in the Semifinals)
At just 21 years old, Acuña set the Braves record for Derby homers in a single contest.
Tune in on Monday night to the 2025 Home Run Derby on ESPN to see where Matt Olson lands on this list of Braves all-time HR Derby performances!
