Stuart Fairchild got the start in right field for the Atlanta Braves in Game One of a doubleheader against the Phillies on Thursday. The Braves wanted to give Ronald Acuna Jr. some rest, fresh off his return from a torn ACL.

Alas, Fairchild was thrown out trying to steal second. Unfortunately, he reached for the base with his unprotected hand, leaving his pinky finger looking gnarly.

Fairchild was replaced in right field by Ronald Acuna Jr. This game also saw AJ Smith-Shawver leave in the third inning, one pitch after being hit by a comebacker in the ankle or heel.

AJ Smith-Shawver made one more pitch after being hit, and it didn’t look good. He winced in pain immediately and nearly gave up a homer. Below, you can see the conversation between him and Manager Brian Snitker, which led to him being pulled after just 38 pitches and 2.2 IP.
