The Atlanta Braves earned their first series victory of the season over the Phillies on Thursday night behind Marcell Ozuna‘s big night. Ozuna went 3-5 with his second homer of the season. The homer was a walk-off in the 11th inning to win the game.
Ozuna’s other homer this season also happened with Schwellenbach starting for the Braves. Ozuna also ripped a double in the first inning by turning on a 97 mph fastball from Jesus Luzardo.
After helping the Braves earn their third win of the season, Ozuna is now hitting .316 on the season with a 1.035 OPS. Ozuna’s on-base percentage is a spectacular .509, meaning the Big Bear is getting on base in over 50% of his plate appearances in 2025.
The Phillies and Braves endured a two hour and forty-five minute rain delay in this game. Once play resumed, a Marcell Ozuna lookalike was spotted in the stands. The lookalike even caught a foul ball before watching the real Ozuna walk it off in the 11th inning. It was a good night for the real and the fake Ozunas. Ozuna has a 50% hard-hit rate with a whopping 29.2% line-drive rate thus far in 2025.
Marcell Ozuna is tied with Austin Riley for the team lead with two homers. His seven RBI lead the team in runs driven in. The Big Bear currently has more walks (15) than strikeouts (14). His 15 walks are five more than the next closest player (Olson, 10). Ozuna also leads the team in runs scored with eight in 12 games.
The Braves head to Tampa to take on the 5-7 Rays tonight. Tampa Bay will send Taj Bradley (1-0, 4.91 ERA) to the mound against Bryce Elder (0-0, 6.75 ERA) at 7:05 ET.
