While the big-league version of the Atlanta Braves has disappointed fans thus far with an 0-6 start, the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers provided some good news yesterday. Sean Murphy homered in his very first rehab assignment at-bat for the Stripers yesterday.

Murphy was injured in spring training after being hit by a pitch that cracked a rib.

The former All-Star catcher could bring a much-needed power and on-base presence to the Braves lineup, as he does when healthy.

Rookie Drake Baldwin is currently just 1-15 to start the season while filling in for Murphy.

Hurston Waldrep Dominant in First Start for Gwinnett

The Braves also sent the fourth-best prospect (according to mlb.com) Hurston Waldrep to the mound against the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday. Waldrep earned the win with five innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven while allowing just three hits and one walk.

Waldrep now has a career 3.05 ERA over 44.1 Triple-A innings. Waldrep has walked 5.5 batters per nine in Triple-A so far. One walk over five innings is a great start and something to watch in 2025 for the 23-year-old right-hander.

Jose Devers Homers for Gwinnett

Jose Devers manned second for the Stripers and went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI. Devers is cousin to Red Sox star player Rafael Devers and is a former top prospect the Braves picked up this offseason.

Gwinnett moved to 1-3 in the young season. Today, the Stripers send Nathan Wiles to the mound to face the Nashville Sound and Deivi Garcia at 11:05 AM EST.
