The Atlanta Braves are now 0-5 to begin the 2025 season after last night’s loss to the Dodgers. For whatever it is worth, Michael Harris II homered in the eighth inning to give the Braves their lone run of the night.

In fact, it was their lone run of the past three games.

The morale in Braves country is about as low as it could be after yesterday. Newly signed left fielder Jurickson Profar was suspended for 80 games for a PED violation. He will not be eligible for postseason play.

Reynaldo Lopez hit the 15-day IL due to shoulder inflammation after making one start. Lopez posted a 1.99 ERA last season in his first year with Atlanta.

And oh, by the way, the Braves are winless on the season after five games and still have to face the Dodgers two more times before heading back east for their home debut.

The Braves are barely edging out the Twins for the worst-hitting team in the league. The team average is .144.

Atlanta’s .243 OBP is also the second-worst in all of baseball.

A team known for its power -that broke the single-season home run record two years ago- is slugging .235 over five games.

The Braves have one stolen base on the season. They are striking out 10 times per game with 50 Ks over their first five games.

This is just the eighth time in franchise history that the Braves have started a season 0-5.

We hope this is just a bad stretch. It’s a rough road trip to the west coast against two very good teams. The Braves bats are cold as ice. If this were in the middle of the season, it would be a bad stretch but not the end of the world. However, the impact is enhanced since it’s the beginning of the season.

There’s no way around the fact that this has been a horrid start to the season for Atlanta, both on the field and off.

On the Bright Side for Atlanta Braves: Matt Olson

Matt Olson has been smashing the baseball to start the season. It may not appear on his stat page yet but he has barreled an astounding 27% of his balls in play and has a hard-hit rate of 63.6%. He hit one in San Diego that would have been gone in 16 other ballparks. If he keeps swinging the bat like this, he’s going to get his hits. Olson is currently hitting .167.
