Atlanta Braves News: After starting his career 0-7, Drake Baldwin earned his first Major League hit in the top of the second inning against the Padres on Saturday evening.

Baldwin earned the single against Randy Vasquez after several hard-hit outs in the first two games. We got multiple camera shots of his mom over the first couple of games as she awaited the big moment.

Baldwin made the Opening Day roster after Sean Murphy suffered a cracked left rib in Spring Training. He entered the season as MLB.com’s number 62 prospect.

Baldwin also threw out his first baserunner (Jackson Merrill) in last night’s game.

While Braves fans will be excited to get Sean Murphy back, we have grown accustomed to benefiting from two quality catchers on the roster. Hopefully, Baldwin will serve as the second half of a dynamic tandem behind the plate.

Congratulations to Drake Baldwin on his first hit. Here’s to many more!
