When a pitcher posts a complete-game shutout in fewer than 100 pitches, it is referred to as a “Maddux.” This is in reference to the legendary Atlanta Braves pitcher Greg Maddux, who has had the most complete-game shutouts in fewer than 100 pitches, with 13 since 1988 (when they started tracking pitch-count data).

  1. Zane Smith spent nearly half of his career with the Braves.

    1. That’s true. However, they didn’t start keeping pitch-count data until 1988. Zane Smith completed his time with Atlanta in 1989. He had three complete games with Atlanta (after they started tracking pitch-count data) and no “Madduxes” with Atlanta. Zane Smith had 17 complete games for the Braves between 1984-1988. There’s a good chance he had several “Madduxes” for the Braves that are lost to history. Thanks for the comment!
