Ronald Acuna Jr. made an attempt to increase his outs above average by making a sliding play in right-centerfield in tonight’s game against the Astros. Acuna slid through the TV screen like he was downhill on a sled. The glove missed the ball and it caromed off of the tender inside part of his right knee. The ball hit so solidly into a sliding Acuna that it was fielded by left fielder Jarred Kelenic.

Acuna got up in obvious pain. He limped back to his position before being swarmed by the Braves training staff. Acuna signaled that he was staying in the game. It appears to have just impacted on the surface and will probably leave a nasty bruise.
Acuna did come up to bat in the half inning (top of the third) and drove a 98.1 mph rocket to right field for an out. The fact that Acuna stayed in the game and then launched a hard-hit ball right afterward are all good signs.
As of the bottom of the third inning, Acuna has a single and a steal in the game. After stealing second base in the first inning, he was thrown out trying to take third. The Braves currently lead 1-0.
