Huascar Ynoa made his third start of the season for the Gwinnett Stripers yesterday. Ynoa missed all of 2023 due to Tommy John surgery. Ynoa has put up solid numbers in two of this first three starts of 2024.
Yesterday, Ynoa bounced back from a horrendous outing against Omaha in which he allowed six earned runs over 1.2 innings. Ynoa squared off against Omaha again yesterday but this time he pitched four quality innings. Outside of the one poor outing, Ynoa has allowed one earned run in eight innings.
He allowed just one hit over four innings yesterday. He had not allowed a hit prior to giving up a solo home run to Nick Pratto with two outs in the third inning.
With Spencer Strider out for the season, the Braves will continue to dip into their starting pitching depth down on the farm. If Ynoa can increase his workload and continue to provide consistent quality outings, he could find himself back with the big-league club later this season. For now, he will remain focused on fully recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Despite the gaudy season ERA (6.52) from the one bad outing, it is good news for Ynoa to have two quality outings under his belt already.
