The Atlanta Braves lost a close one last night 3-2 against Garrett Crochet and the White Sox. Today, they hope to finish the series with another victory before they head to Atlanta for the home opener against the Diamondbacks.
Reynaldo Lopez has solid first start for Braves
Reynaldo Lopez had a really good first start as an Atlanta Brave. The starter turned reliever turned starter looked fantastic in his Braves debut. It was good to see the strikeout stuff still working despite moving from reliever to starter this season.
Lopez allowed just one run over six innings, striking out five and walking two.
Brian Snitker was very pleased with what Reynaldo Lopez brought to the table in his debut.
Marcell Ozuna predicted his home run in the sixth inning
Marcell Ozuna was a bright spot on a rough night for the offense. He accounted for both of the Braves runs with two solo shots. In the sixth inning after Lopez allowed his only run of the game, Ozuna approached Lopez in the dugout and assured him that he would get it back. Then, he homered in the seventh inning.
Ozuna homered again in the ninth to make it a one-run game. Things got interesting as the Braves battled against Michael Kopech. Michael Harris II and Orlando Arcia put up two fantastic plate appearances as they battled the cold and Kopech’s 100 mph fastball. After going down 1-2, Harris worked an eight-pitch walk. Arcia followed him by going down 1-2 and looking overmatched. He battled back and earned a single to left on the sixth pitch to give the Braves hope.
Alas, Travis d’Arnaud popped out to end the game. It was a fun game and the Braves can hang their hats on Reynaldo Lopez’s outstanding start from the fifth spot in the rotation.
Braves vs. White Sox could get postponed today due to snow
Today’s get-away game could end up being postponed due to weather. We all have seen how miserable poor Ronald Acuna Jr. has looked during this series. The temperature in Chicago at first pitch was 44 degrees yesterday. Chicago was expected to get 2-3 inches of snow overnight and even more this morning.
There is a very good chance we don’t get any Braves baseball until Friday’s home opener. That would mean Spencer Strider would be get the ball for the home opener against the Diamondbacks at Truist Park.
