The Atlanta Braves and Alex Anthopoulos have made another deal. They continue their interesting strategy of taking on bad contracts for the opportunity to bring value (low-paid) talent with team control on board.
The Atlanta Braves traded minor-league outfielder Drew Campbell for Matt Carpenter, LHP Ray Kerr, and cash considerations.
Ray Kerr is the focal point of the deal for the Braves and getting rid of Matt Carpenter’s contract appears to be the goal for the Padres.
Ray Kerr is a power lefty with a 96 mph fastball. He has limited major-league experience and is under team control for six years. With AJ Minter leaving in free agency next season, it appears they have hope Kerr will be a mainstay in Atlanta for several years, especially considering he’s pre-arbitration for the next three seasons.
