Atlanta Braves News (Week of 09/25/23)

It was an eventful week for Atlanta Braves news. Let’s get into it. MLB announced a new team Silver Slugger Award and the Braves are the obvious favorites to win the inaugural prize.

Atlanta Braves Could Walk Away with a Whole Bunch of Silver Slugger Awards

On their way to multiple offensive records this season, the Braves have at least six players in the running for individual Silver Sluggers.

Elder Has Been Bad

Bryce Elder‘s second-half struggles continued in his last start. Elder now has a 5.75 ERA since July 9th and has allowed 13 earned runs in his past 12.1 innings.

Acuna Has Tied Mookie’s New Record

Mookie Betts set the single-season record for most RBI in a season by leadoff hitter. Ronald Acuna Jr. has now tied Mookie for the record. Acuna will look to lock down the top spot in baseball history over the weekend.

Spencer Strides Toward History on Saturday

Spencer Strider toes the rubber today in an attempt to win his 20th game of the year and set the franchise record for strikeouts. The record is currently held by John Smoltz with 276 in 1996. Strider is sitting on 274 strikeouts on the season. Make sure you tune in tonight to witness Braves’ history.

Acuna Ties Otis Nixon’s Stolen Base Record

Last night, Acuna tied Otis Nixon’s single-season franchise stolen base record of 72.

That Acuna Guy Stands Alone

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Ronald Acuna Jr. became the only member of the 40-70 club on September 27th when he swiped second base against the Cubs in the 10th inning. More fun happened when the Braves stopped the game to honor the accomplishment. An accomplishment in which no one in the history of the game or the world has achieved. The Cubs announcers were sore losers and whined about it during the broadcast, drawing the mockery of the entire internet.

The Cubs Left Black and Blue After Encounter Braves

It’s easy to understand why they were so angry. The Cubs came to Atlanta as a one of the Wild Card teams and they left with three losses. They are now on the outside of the postseason looking in thanks to the beating they suffered at the hands of Acuna and the Braves.
