Atlanta Braves News: Jared Shuster pitched six shutout innings against the Charlotte Knights. Shuster’s AAA ERA is down to 2.37 on the season. Travis d’Arnaud made his first rehab start in the game, going 0-3. d’Arnaud was off to a good start for the Braves before he suffered a concussion in a collision at the plate. The Stripers won the game 2-0.
Braden Shewmake was called up to the big leagues for the first time as Ehire Adrianza was placed on the IL. The Braves choosing to being the sesason with both Shewmake and Grissom in Gwinnett is proving to have been the right call in terms of depth and production, thus far. We explained why optioning Grissom and Shewmake was the right decision at the time.
In Triple-A, Shewmake is hitting .243 with five homers, 17 runs scored, 17 runs batted in, and nine steals. Shewmake made his debut yesterday and went 0-4. With Vaughn Grissom struggling (57 OPS+) with the big club, Shewmake should see some opportunities.

Max Fried came into last night’s game with 18 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. It was the longest active streak by a starting pitcher. Fried was solid through the first six innings and left the game with four runs allowed in the seventh but Joe Jiminez gave up a grand slam to Anthony Santander, his second homer of the game. Fried was charged with five earned runs over six innings. Fried’s ERA is still 2.08 after the rough outing. He struck out seven.
The Atlanta Braves take on the Orioles Saturday, May 6th at 7:15. Spencer Strider will take the mound opposite Kyle Bradish. The game will be broadcast on FOX in a matchup of two of the league’s best records.
