Atlanta Braves: Charlie Culberson, Vaughn Grissom, and Braden Shewmake to Lead Gwinnett in Season Opener, Bryce Elder to Start

The Atlanta Braves have the day off today after opening the season with a win yesterday. The great news is that MLB.TV will broadcast minor league games this season!

Tonight, the Gwinnett Stripers will roll out a star-studded lineup to begin their season against the (MIA) Jumbo Shrimps. I love minor-league mascot names!

Former Braves’ fan favorite Charlie Culberson signed with the Braves today and is on the Gwinnett roster. Vaughn Grissom could make his Triple-A debut tonight, as well. There was much debate over whether Grissom or Shewmake would make the Opening Day roster as the starting shortstop for the big-league club.

Shewmake will be accompanied by other spring standouts such as Justin Dean, Jordan Luplow, Forrest Wall, and Eli White.

Bryce Elder will get the start for the Stripers. Elder entered camp as one of the favorites to win the fifth spot in the rotation. Elder pitched well for the Braves last season in 10 games. He started nine and finished with a 3.17 ERA and a complete game shutout.

Elder had a rough spring and will look to get back on track as he leads the Stripers against the Jumbo Shrimp tonight at 7:05 pm EST on MLB.TV.
