The Atlanta Braves enter the day with a 1-2-2 record on the spring. The Braves tied the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-3 affair. Not to worry, the Grapefruit league standings are like an episode of Whose Line is it Anyway, where the points don’t matter.
Players are getting work in and in some cases trying to bounce back from injuries. The Braves have quite a few comeback candidates. Two of them made their spring debuts yesterday in Nick Anderson and Kirby Yates. If either one of them or (cross your fingers) both of them should regain their elite form, the Braves will probably have the best bullpen in baseball this year.
Both Anderson and Yates looked good in the game. Nick Anderson pitched an inning of perfection with two Ks. Read more about Anderson’s day and potential impact on the Braves bullpen here.
Yates allowed a solo homer to Josh Lowe but his splitter had life and his fastball velocity was right where it used to be at 93.
Justin Dean continued his torrid start to the spring, swiping two more bags to give him four on the season. He finished the day with a sparkling .500 average.
Atlanta Braves 03/02/2023 Game Preview
The Atlanta Braves will take on the New York Mets at 1:10 EST. The game will be broadcast on SNY and can be heard on WIFN 1340 AM/103.7FM.
The Mets will send out RHP Carlos Carrasco while newly re-acquired LHP Kolby Allard will take the bump for the Bravos in his second spring start.
Allard was selected 14th overall by Atlanta in the 2015 draft and was once one of the top prospects in the Braves’ system. He is attempting to make a case for the fifth spot in the rotation.
Enjoy the game! Go Braves!
