The Atlanta Braves came home last night after a 1-5 road trip to the west coast. They kicked off the series against the Boston Red Sox with a 4-2 victory. Today, the Braves send Chris Sale to the mound to face his former team.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm ET at Truist Park and will be broadcast on Bally Sports South.

Nick Pivetta vs. Atlanta Braves Hitters

In 133 career at-bats, Braves hitters are slugging .511 off Nick Pivetta with nine home runs, 25 RBIs, and 11 walks. Current Braves hitters have an .824 OPS off of Nick Pivetta.

This is a good matchup for the Braves. Pivetta is in his eighth season as a major-leaguer and he has a career 4.81 ERA.

Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies have combined for just 13 hits in 58 at-bats (.224 avg.) with two doubles, a triple, no homers, and 15 strikeouts.

Orlando Arcia, Matt Olson, and Travis d’Arnaud all have a homer off of Pivetta in limited at-bats. Arcia is 4-5 off of Pivetta in his career.

Austin Riley has slugged two bombs off of Pivetta in just 16 at-bats.

Marcell Ozuna has owned Nick Pivetta with four homers in 24 at-bats.

Chris Sale vs. Boston Red Sox Hitters

The Red Sox have very minimal exposure to Chris Sale in game situations. That bodes well for the veteran lefty. Only two teams strikeout more per game than the Boston Red Sox. They have struck out 9.89 times per game and added another nine to their total last night against Atlanta.

Chris Sale has not had fewer than six strikeouts in a game and is coming off of a season-high nine strikeouts against the Seattle Mariners.

This could be an outstanding opportunity to see Sale reach double-digit Ks for the first time in 2024.

Braves Odds: Spread and Moneyline

The Braves are favored in this home matchup by 1.5 runs (+124 odds) and the Braves Moneyline is set at -155 odds, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Atlanta Braves Odds: Picks of the Day

I am 19-4 on my Braves picks this year. You can check out my previous picks here.

  • Braves Moneyline (-198): I like the pitching matchup and the Red Sox lineup is shallow and further diluted by injuries.
  • Marcell Ozuna Over 0.5 Hits (-235): Ozuna has crushed Pivetta and he’s having a great season. If you want to get a little riskier on Ozuna and shoot for the over on total bases or even a homer, I’ll leave it up to you, but this is a nice matchup for the Big Bear.
  • Orlando Arcia Over 0.5 Hits (-230)
