The Atlanta Braves suffered an embarrassing defeat to the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon. Marcell Ozuna provided one bright spot for the Braves in the 16-4 loss. Ozuna went 1-2 and extended his hit streak to 10-straight games.
Ozuna went 0-5 on Opening Day. That is the only game of the season he has been held hitless. Ozuna was 1-2 with two walks today. He is slashing .326/.367/1.063 through 11 games. Ozuna is hitting .429 with four home runs over his past seven games.
Allan Winans was thrust into the rotation after Spencer Strider was placed in the 15-Day IL. Winans was rocked by the Mets for seven runs (six earned) over five innings. Things didn’t get much better for the bullpen, which has the worst ERA in baseball since Monday. Dylan Lee and Tyler Matzek combined to give up five earned runs over the next two innings.
Then, as expired icing on top of the melted ice cream cake, Luis Guillorme made his debut as an Atlanta Braves player and he did so as a pitcher. He had the honor of facing his former team in his Braves debut. Guillorme gave up a grand slam to Tyrone Taylor to make it 16-4. Guillorme’s ERA is 36.00.
Ronald Acuna Jr. went 0-4 with one strikeout in the game. Acuna did have two hard-hit balls in this game. His average may have dropped to .233 but you have to like what we’ve seen from the MVP the past few games. He’s poised to go on a run.
Chadwick Tromp earned his first double of the season, driving in two runs. It’s good to see Tromp get his bat going a little bit today. Tromp finished 2-4 and is now hitting .200 on the season.
Despite dropping to 7-4, the Braves are still in first place in the NL East.
Next Up for Braves: The Braves will head to Miami to begin a three-game set with the 2-11 Marlins. The Braves are going to be hungry for a bounce back series against the fish after losing two of three to the Mets. The Braves will roll out three-straight studs against Miami in Max Fried, Chris Sale, and Charlie Morton.
