Comparing Arcia’s and Fletcher’s defensive metrics
Orlando Arcia has accumulated three defensive runs saved over 673 games logged at shortstop. That’s a pace of less than one defensive runs saved per 135 games, so he get a zero there. Arcia finished with five Outs Above Average last season, good for the 88th percentile.

He does have one of the weaker arms in the league. Which is the opposite of what Orlando Arcia offers. The announcers are constantly reminding us of what a cannon Arcia has from shortstop. Arcia’s average velocity was 86.9 mph last season.
Meanwhile, David Fletcher averaged around 77 mph when he slung it. Granted, 14 of his 36 games, he was throwing from second base. Even so, it isn’t a big deal to throw 77-80 mph from shortstop. If you believe it is a hinderance to defensive performance, then ask Dansby Swanson.
